Self-Love Mirror Challenge

In my group couching program Nourish Your Life, and in my Self-Love 101 course, we have a whole week dedicated to self-love where we explore the inner (& outer) workings of ourselves so that we can gain a better understanding of where our feelings are coming from. Being told to love yourself can sound easy, but if you’re on this endless journey with me than you know, it’s just not that simple. Self-Love can be hard, scary, and trying at times. It can also be fun, rewarding, and gratifying in ways only you can understand because this is your journey.

Mirror Mirror, on the Wall

This is the first challenge in my Self-Love 101 E-Book, and it is possibly the hardest one, not going to lie. But I like to encourage my clients to jump FULL FORCE into their self-love journey. I find that a lot of us have a fear of mirrors and this challenge is meant to break that fear down. This challenge is in place to start to get to the bottom of our insecurities and find ourselves, OUR TRUE SELVES, beneath our skin and what we see in the mirror.

WARNING:

This challenge might bring up some bad feelings and thoughts the first time you do it. If you start to feel those things creeping up, let yourself cry. Let it all out and if you need to stop, stop. A big part of self-love is LISTENING TO YOUR INTUITION and what your mind + body need.

Who’s the Loveliest of them All?

I want you to stand, sit, lay, kneel – however you are comfortable – in front of a mirror. You can be clothed if you prefer, but the most powerful way to do this challenge is to be naked. This may be very triggering, so please wear what you are comfortable in.

I want you to stay in front of the mirror for AT LEAST 2 minutes. If you can’t make it that long, try for as long as you can. I want you to LOOK AT YOURSELF. Look at your face. Look at your body. Look at your rolls, your lumps, your bumps.

Notice what thoughts start to come up. Are you instantly criticizing yourself? Insulting yourself? Picking out things that you need to change. As soon as one of those thoughts comes up, I want you to STOP.

Think the word STOP. Say the word STOP out loud if you need to. When one of those negative thoughts come up, I want you to think or say the exact opposite of that thought.

For example, if the first thought that comes to mind is “I hate my stomach”, I want you to STOP, and say “I LOVE my stomach.” Even if you don’t believe it yet.

When You’re Finished

It’s time to write out those feelings because no matter how this exercise went, you want to be able to remember where you started on this journey. How do you feel right now? What were some things that stood out for you during this practice? Were you able to stay for the whole two minutes? Were you able to do it naked or did you remain clothed? All these things are important because our actions are a direct result of how we feel towards ourselves- how worthy we’ve deemed ourselves. You can repeat this challenge throughout your Self-Love journey and see how much your thoughts have changed.

Now say, “Alexa play Soulmate by Lizzo.”
