Lunar Eclipse and Beaver Full Moon in Gemini
As we say goodbye to Autumn we are gifted with a lunar eclipse on our last full moon of the season, known as the Beaver Moon nicknamed because this is the time of year when beavers are hard at work building their dams in preparation for the cold winter. On Monday, the beaver moon becomes its fullest, but there will also be a partial, or “penumbral” eclipse, which happens when the Earth, moon and sun are not perfectly aligned. So, what does this mean for us and our final lap of 2020?
Traditionally, eclipses aren’t the best time to do the typical set intentions or release ceremonies, to travel, make new commitments, sign contracts, or start brand new projects. It’s best to rest, meditate, pray, and tap into your yin energy around eclipse time. If possible, wait to sign contracts or make firm commitments until a few weeks post eclipse season. When new relationships, contracts, or projects begin during eclipse season they often carry the energy of the eclipse and can feel chaotic over the long term.
You’ll just want people to let you be free to do your thing. But there’s a flipside, of course. You’ll also be all about respecting the opinions of others and allowing them to have their own thoughts and feelings. It’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is thinking and doing because you’re only human. But sometimes you’ve just got to march to the beat of your own drum and let others do the same.
In ancient astrology, eclipses were very feared, and people were warned not to venture out, get married, or do much around the eclipse times. It can feel like a deeply spiritual time where the veil is thin, insights are strong, and intuition is heightened. We may find ourselves feeling chaotic, irritable, tired, agitated, and sleepy around the eclipse. We can have wild and extreme dreams. Alternatively, many of us LOVE the fun and exciting eclipse energy and love riding the flow of new possibilities. We are each so unique, so feel into it for yourself!
Now is the time to desire for change, voice your opinions – but always think before you speak, honor your emotions while also honoring the emotions of those around you. This comes from the throat chakra (also known as Vishuddha) which is responsible for communication, self-expression, and the ability to speak your personal truth.
“I speak my desires into existence.”
The Throat chakra is about the expression of yourself: your truth and your purpose in life, while also connecting us to spirit. Because of its location, it’s often seen as the “bottleneck” of the movement of energy in the body. Opening the throat chakra can help align your vision with reality and release pressure that may affect the heart chakra that is located just below.
A blocked throat chakra can manifest as feelings of insecurity, timidity, and introversion. On the other end of the spectrum, an overactive throat chakra may also lead to gossiping, nonstop talking, and being verbally aggressive or mean. It can seem as though the filter between the discourse you have in your mind and what comes out of your mouth is not working or missing entirely. So, what can we do to get things back in alignment ahead of this Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse Duo?
